What we use them for
Through Family First Life, we have access to Nassau’s life and annuity product lines. From an agent’s perspective, they tend to be a strong fit when:
- The case is final-expense or simplified-issue life. Nassau writes simplified-issue products that fit clients who want a smaller permanent policy without a full medical exam.
- The case is a fixed-indexed annuity at a smaller carrier. Nassau is an active FIA writer, and their illustrations are worth running when comparing across the FIA bucket.
- The buyer is comfortable with a smaller, less-recognizable brand. Nassau is not a household name the way Mutual of Omaha or Lincoln are, but the underlying balance sheet (rooted in the former Phoenix Companies) has a long operating history.
A note on financial strength
Nassau publishes a Financial Strength page on their corporate site but does not list current rating values inline. Pull live AM Best and S&P values directly from AM Best before citing them on a call — for less-recognizable brands, current rating data is especially worth verifying.
When to consider another carrier
If brand recognition matters most to the client, Mutual of Omaha is usually the smoother conversation. If the goal is broad IUL product depth, carriers like Lincoln Financial or North American are typically the first stop. Nassau tends to be the answer when the case is final-expense or a specific FIA illustration where their product happens to fit.
